Spiritual Park - Pointe des Lascars: A haven of spirituality in Mauritius
Nestled on the north coast of Mauritius, the Spiritual Park at Pointe des Lascars is an emblematic place where spirituality, history and natural beauty meet in harmony. This sacred site, located near the village of Poudre d'Or, offers visitors a unique experience combining contemplation and cultural discovery.

A place steeped in history

The Spiritual Park at Pointe des Lascars has its roots in the desire to commemorate the legacy of Indian immigrants who arrived in Mauritius.
Officially inaugurated in 2002, this sacred site was designed and developed at the instigation of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute and with the support of the Mauritian government, as part of a project to preserve the memory of the workers involved.
However, the project also benefited from the crucial support and spiritual vision of Swami Krishnanand Saraswati, a respected religious leader who was instrumental in its conception. The Hindu Maha Sabha, a major Mauritian religious organization, also contributed significantly to its realization.
The choice of this location is not insignificant: Pointe des Lascars is precisely the historic landing place of the first Indian workers to arrive on the island after the abolition of slavery in 1835. The architectural design of the park was entrusted to Indian and Mauritian craftsmen, who created a harmonious space integrating traditional elements of Hindu sacred architecture while respecting the natural beauty of the coastal site. Statues and shrines were gradually added over the years, transforming what was once a simple place of remembrance into a veritable living spiritual center, now an important symbol of the Hindu presence on the island and a concrete testimony to the historical links between India and Mauritius.
The term "Lascars" refers to the sailors and workers from India who crossed the Indian Ocean to Mauritius, bringing with them their traditions, culture and religious beliefs.

A Hindu sanctuary by the sea

Inaugurated in 2002, Spiritual Park has become an important center of pilgrimage for the Mauritian Hindu community and visitors from all over the world. The park is home to several monuments and statues dedicated to Hindu deities, including :

  • An imposing statue of Shiva, the god of transformation
  • A sanctuary dedicated to Ganesh, the elephant-headed deity and symbol of wisdom
  • Representations of Krishna and other important figures from Hindu mythology

The site's architecture blends traditional Indian influences with modern touches, creating a space that is both authentic and accessible.

An exceptional natural setting

What makes Spiritual Park particularly remarkable is its privileged location. Situated on a rocky headland jutting out into the Indian Ocean, the site offers spectacular panoramic views of the turquoise waters and surrounding islands. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Ile Plate, Ile Ronde and Coin de Mire in the distance.
The serenity of the site is enhanced by the meticulous landscaping: flower gardens, sacred trees such as the peepal (pagoda fig), and meditation areas facing the sea. The soothing sound of the waves breaking against the rocks helps create an atmosphere conducive to meditation.

A place for celebration and communion

Spiritual Park is not only a place of daily prayer, but also a place of celebration for many festivals in the Hindu calendar. Important events such as Maha Shivaratri, Ganesh Chaturthi and Divali are celebrated here with fervor, attracting thousands of devotees.
These celebrations are an opportunity for visitors to discover the richness of Mauritian Hindu traditions: floral offerings, devotional songs, fire rituals (havan), and the sharing of prasad (blessed food).
