An exceptional musical event: Rishab Rikhiram Sharma In concert at the SVICC

Mauritius will welcome one of the most prominent figures on the international music scene on February 28, 2026. Sitarist Rishab Rikhiram Sharma will perform at the SVICC as part of his global "Sitar for Mental Health" project, a tour that has already captivated audiences in India, the United States, Canada, and South America.

A historic first for Mauritius

GravityXero and Ticketbox.mu are organizing this event, which responds to strong demand from the Mauritian public. According to Ajay Deora, CEO of GravityXero, this is the very first sitar concert in Mauritius by an artist of this stature. The announcement of the show generated immediate excitement on social media, demonstrating the public's eagerness to discover this unique artist.

The organizing team is preparing an ambitious production for this evening. Sophisticated lighting installations and visual work are planned to create an immersive and refined experience.

An heir to the great indian musical tradition

Rishab Rikhiram Sharma was born into the prestigious Rikhi Ram family, a renowned lineage of stringed instrument makers from Delhi. Introduced to the sitar at the age of ten by his father, Sanjay Sharma, a master luthier, he made his first stage appearance in 2011.

This concert marked a turning point: his performance caught the attention of the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar, who accepted him as a disciple, making him his youngest and last student. After the master's death, Rishab continued his studies under Pandit Parimal Sadaphal, while also benefiting from the teachings of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Rais Khan, and Pandit Arun Bharatram.

A career marked by prestigious awards

The young sitar player has accumulated remarkable achievements. He is the first sitar player to have been invited to perform solo at the White House during the Diwali celebrations, at the invitation of President Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Rishab Sharma also stands out as the only sitar player of his generation to have performed solo before 60,000 spectators at Houston's NGR Stadium, with over 500 million online viewers. He also participated in the Woodstock 50 Reunion, paying tribute to his mentor's iconic performance at the 1969 festival.

In 2024, he was invited to perform for Indian athletes at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, an event organized by JSW and the Indian government.

Between tradition and modernity

After attending Delhi Public School RK Puram, Rishab moved to New York at the age of 17, where he pursued a dual degree in music production and economics at the City University of New York, Queens College Campus. This immersion in the American music scene allowed him to develop a unique style, fusing the roots of Indian classical music with contemporary influences.

From the White House to the Burning Man festival, Rishab has taken the sitar to places few would have imagined. His music navigates between meditative ragas, energetic improvisations, and experimental collaborations.

"Sitar for Mental Health": Music in the service of well-being

Beyond his performances, Rishab Rikhiram Sharma has dedicated himself to the fight for mental health. In 2020, he founded "Sitar for Mental Health," an initiative aimed at promoting mental well-being through music therapy.

The artist has been open about his own struggles with anxiety and depression, convinced that music has the power to heal. He offers free online music therapy sessions and collaborates with mental health professionals to develop a holistic approach to well-being.

The media highlighted his meditative concerts that integrate Indian classical music with mindfulness practices. In Hyderabad, in particular, he offered an innovative performance combining sitar and guided breathing exercises.

An impressive digital presence

Rishab regularly performs live on Instagram and Clubhouse, his performances frequently reaching millions of views. He has built a global community through digital platforms, making Indian classical music accessible to a new and diverse audience.

In 2023, he composed and directed the innovative musical project Kautilya for Spotify. He has also collaborated with international brands such as ALDO and HSBC, and participated in popular television programs in India.

A meeting not to be missed for Maurice

The concert on February 28, 2026 at The sVICC represents a unique opportunity for the mauritian Public. Rishab Rikhiram sharma embodies this new generation of artists who respect age-old traditions while reinventing them for our time.

As Ajay Deora points out, "Rishab Rikhiram Sharma has changed the way the world listens to music in every country." His approach combines technical virtuosity, artistic innovation, and humanitarian commitment, promising an evening that will leave a lasting mark on the Mauritian cultural scene.
